The URA team said they wondered how BURS Internal Audit Division plays their role i

n helping BURS to achieve its objectives and targets in this era of eminent challenges such as technology, corruption, fraud and bribery.

Due to the fact that most concerns of internal audit normally revolve around risk management, it was found prudent to involve other units within BURS especially those with roles that fall in line of managing organizational risks. These included Integrity and Internal Investigations office, Customs Investigation Unit and Risk and Compliance Division.

Notwithstanding that, URA acknowledged learning more from BURS even on other areas outside audit such as fleet management, access control and management of whistle blowers and indicated that they will adopt some of the approaches used by BURS.

The team accompanied by the BURS Acting Chief Internal Auditor Mr Lovemore Katukula met with internal audit units of Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), Botswana International University of Technology (BIUST), Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) and finally Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana.

The URA team consisted of the Assistant Commissioner Internal Audit, Mr Joseph Okecho, Manager Customs Audit, Mr Kikwaya Daniel, Manager Compliance, Mr Moses Kasakya, Manager Revenue Accounting , Ms Judith Kasoma and Manager Financial and Management Systems , Mr Emmanuel Bichetero.

The Commissioner General Mr Ken Morris, presented gifts to the team as a token of appreciation. He jokingly urged them to spend some of their money locally to contribute to the revenue to be collected by BURS.
